Authorities in Warrensville Heights say a multi-vehicle crash involving 20 vehicles temporarily shut down express lanes at the interchange of Interstate 271 and Interstate 480 late Monday night.
According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the crash occurred shortly after 9 p.m. on an icy bridge overpass in the express lanes. Troopers reported that at least three commercial vehicles were among those involved.
Emergency crews from multiple agencies—including police, fire, and EMS—responded to the scene. Several individuals were transported to nearby hospitals with injuries, though the extent of those injuries has not been released.
Officials confirmed that no hazardous materials were spilled as a result of the crash.
The incident led to the overnight closure of northbound I-271 at the I-480 interchange while crews worked to clear the wreckage and investigate the scene. The roadway has since been reopened to traffic.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation. Authorities are asking anyone with information to contact the Ohio State Highway Patrol at 216-265-1677.
