Two people were hospitalized with serious injuries following a multi-vehicle crash in Monona on Tuesday afternoon, according to the Monona Police Department.
The collision occurred around 12:12 p.m. at the intersection of Monona Drive and Broadway. When police and fire crews arrived at the scene, they encountered what officials described as a substantial crash involving multiple vehicles.
Authorities said two individuals—a man and a woman traveling in separate vehicles—sustained serious injuries and were transported to local hospitals for treatment. Other motorists involved in the crash reported injuries and were evaluated at the scene by emergency medical services.
Due to the severity of the incident, Monona police requested assistance from additional law enforcement agencies to help manage traffic in the area. This included regulating exit ramps from US 12 onto Monona Drive to reduce congestion.
The Monona Police Department has launched a comprehensive investigation into the crash and is being assisted by the Wisconsin State Patrol with crash reconstruction efforts. Investigators are currently gathering witness statements and reviewing video footage from the surrounding area.
The intersection of Monona Drive and East Broadway remains closed as authorities continue their investigation. Madison Metro bus service in the area has also been rerouted.
Officials are advising motorists to avoid the area and use alternate routes. Drivers attempting to access Monona Drive from US 12 are encouraged to take the Highway 51 or Broadway exits to help ease traffic delays.
